BC+ Seagrass-Positive Businesses Funding Window from the BC+ program. The BC+ Seagrass-Positive Businesses Funding Window aims to accelerate the advancement of sea cucumber and bivalve business models that have the potential for actively restoring and preserving seagrass ecosystems. Under this call for proposals, BC+ will award grant funding for feasibility, proof of concept activities and expansion of existing models. Proposed models should target one or more of the following priorities: • Sea cucumber mariculture in seagrass ecosystems • Bivalve mariculture that restores seagrass. Up to 800,000 USD in total funding will be awarded under this window. The number of partners selected will depend on the application pool and the funding requests received. Ocean Conservancy and Oceans North are inviting scientist to support a letter calling on Arctic governments to take a lead in developing an international agreement that protects the CAO and its ecosystems, adopts a precautionary approach based on Indigenous and scientific knowledge that pauses new industrial activities in the CAO, and promotes international cooperation and collaboration for research, monitoring, data-sharing, and development of governance mechanisms appropriate for this crucially important international region.
The MATE ROV Competition. Each year, the MATE ROV competition challenges students to build an ROV to tackle tasks based on the real world. From simulating missions to explore Jupiter’s moon Europa to diving on hydrothermal vents and determining the identification on an unknown shipwreck, the MATE ROV competition allows students from college and university students down to elementary students to build an ROV with a specific goal in mind.
Call for articles for a special issue of Geoscience Communication. We are inviting contributions to a special issue of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) journal Geoscience Communication on the theme of Climate and ocean education and communication: Practice, ethics and urgency. We welcome research articles that investigate a wide variety of topics, including, but not limited to, the following: best practices and innovative approaches to climate and ocean education; the ethics and geoethics of climate and ocean education, including social justice and equity; the role of technology (including artificial intelligence) and new media in climate and ocean education; the intersection of climate and ocean education with other issues, such as biodiversity, sustainable development, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); the impact of climate and ocean education on public opinion, policy and behaviour; the integration of climate and ocean education into formal and informal education; the role of geoscience research in advancing climate and ocean education; scientific investigation of outreach initiatives targeting different age groups, settings, and approaches; learners’ content and procedural knowledge of climate science and options for action (e.g. climate feedbacks, impacts, adaptation measures, and renewable energy), cultivating science and communication skills (e.g. quantitative literacy, critical thinking, and writing to inform), initiating positive attitudes and actions (e.g. empathy and behavioural change) and issues related to the transfer of education into action and to timescales needed for mindset and behavioural change.
