The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) was established as a regional, non-profit, membership organization in 1993 and registered in Zanzibar, Tanzania in 1994 as a non-governmental organization.

The organization is dedicated to promoting the educational, scientific and technological development of all aspects of marine sciences throughout the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region (consisting of 10 countries: Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion (France)), with a view toward sustaining the use and conservation of its marine resources. WIOMSA has a particular interest in linking the knowledge that emerges from research to the management and governance issues that affect marine and coastal ecosystems in the region.

Svenska havsforskningsföreningen (SHF), är en ideell förening som sedan vår start 1967, har verkat för att främja samarbete mellan svenska institutioner och personer som alla arbetar kring frågor som rör den marina miljön, vare sig det är biologisk, fysisk, geologisk, kemisk eller teknisk havsforskning eller marin miljöövervakning. Som ett led i detta arbete, anordnar vi varje år Havsforskningsdagarna; en konferens vars huvudsyfte är att främja spridandet av svensk forskning på nationell och internationell nivå. Genom Havsforskardagarna erbjuder vi ett forum med stark kontinuitet, men även i ett format som främjar samarbete mellan forskare och privata organisationer.

The Swedish Society for Marine Sciences (SHF), is a non-profit association. Since the start in 1967, SHF has worked to promote cooperation between Swedish institutions and people who work on issues related to the marine environment and marine sciences. As part of this work, we organize the Marine Research Days every year; a conference whose main purpose is to promote the dissemination of Swedish research at national and international level. Through the Marine Research Days, we offer a forum with strong continuity but also in a format that promotes collaboration between researchers and private organizations.
